YiXing teapots occupy a special place in the hearts of Chinese tea lovers
The famous Zisha 紫砂 (purple clay) from Yixing has been used to make teapots for centuries. Wan Ling travels to Dingshan in Jiangsu province to meet the artisans that have spent their lives honing their skills in this craft. Wan Ling personally selects pots from makers who adhere to the traditional methods and produce the best quality pots. Each pot is built from scratch on a hand wheel using wooden tools.
It's commonplace to own a teapot for each type of tea; as the unglazed clay absorbs the characteristics of the tea brewed in it, over time this patina adds to the flavour of your brew. Purple clay teapots quickly become lifelong tea friends and before long you'll find you've started a collection!
Quality and safety is paramount to us, so we adhere closely to the UK government's Trading Standards Department guidelines "Articles in contact with food 2006" and send pots from our artisan makers away for lead and cadmium testing.
Wan Ling enjoys sourcing particular pots for people. If you get in touch, she'd be happy to help.
